Pebble Decorations in Your Garden.
Use of stones and pebbles is one of the ways how we can reduce the spread of weeds. I am one of the pioneers who started using pebble cover in Cyprus and I have been even criticiszed for that. Lately however, I observed that everone began to use, even the ones who have been criticizing me. The reason lies in the high effectiveness of this method. Yes, we love grass and we would like to see our garden covered everywhere by green. However, keeping a garden green and beutiful requires a lot of work, time, watering and, obviously, more expenses. Therefore, many people choose stone and pebble decoration instead. Still though, caring of the garden is as much important as creating it So, Lets discuss what should be taken into consideration while doing the pebble decorations. First of all, the ground should be carefully cleaned. Before anything else is done, weed medicine, which stops weeds growing, should be spread around. The next important step is to add the soil. Needless to say, a qaulity membrane is of the utmost importance. I would advise not to use plastic, not only because it is not a long-lasting material, but also because it is not permeable, so you can expect problems when it will, say, rain. Another thing is that in the summer time stones and pebbles will reflect the heat onto the plastic and it will become hard and would probably fall apart after a short time. ![]() Sorts of Stones and Pebbles. There are not much stone decors in Cyprus and also just a few sorts of stones and pebbles. However, lately, because of the high demand, their use in the garden started to increase. Because there are not enough sea stones we usually use a brook pebble. Of course they are not as colourful as sea pebbles but they are the only natural pebbles available on the market. Cerainly you can beatify your garden with the sea stones. The most used ones are cracked pebbles. Before, the colours of these were dark grey and/or white grey mixed. They were only two sorts. Now you can find white, creme, red, black and brown colours. When these colours are used, the beuty and significance of pebble decoration can be seen. I think that the stone decors used in Italy and Turkey will soon be applied in Cyprus, although the houses here are mostly holiday homes. I meet people who still give a lot of importance to their gardens and homes, so I believe that stone decors will be of better quality and more impressive! In my next months article I will talk about the laying of stones and the importance of flowers within decoration. ![]() Mediterranean Gardener GARDEN DESING , LANDSCAPING MAINTENANCE IRRIGATION SYSTEM Serdar Arapoglu Tel: 0542 881 2980 Address: 20Temmuz Street(Before Green Petrol Station) ALSANCAK / North Cyprus serdar@medgardener.com Mediterranean Gardener - Home Mediterranean Gardener - Home Mediterranean Gardener - Home Mediterranean Gardener - Home Mediterranean Gardener - Home Mediterranean Gardener - Home |

Types of Grass .Many of you don't want to see bare ground around your garden. You want your garden to be green and prefer it to be covered with lawn. While some of you prefer this for your children to play on, some desire it for picnicking or sunbathing.
If you want to cover your garden with grass, you have to pay great importance to choosing the correct type. You have to keep in mind the position of your garden, whether it is shaded or not, and local water conditions. Here we will go through the types of grass that are used in North Cyprus. These are: Australian Grass (kikiu), Bermuda and Fesluka. We use these types according to the position of the garden and your taste. Australian Grass (Kikiu). This is the most suitable grass for the climate of Cyprus. It is easy to care for and is resistant to clover and drought compared to the others. It has thick leafs and tends to fill empty spaces easily. Special care should be shown to infestations though. The timing and use of insecticides is crucial for a perfect lawn. In winter it is yellow for a short time for hibernation. It is not possible to plant this in winter. Fesluka. This is a type of grass with a magnificent vision in dark green. It needs more care that other types, but you can plant this type in the winter. Bermuda. This is a long lasting type of grass with a thin and green appearance. It withers rarely and it is easy to grow. If cutting and insecticides are applied at the proper time it keeps its beaty for many years. Through the winter season though, there may appear some small weeds. Nevertheless they easily disappear in the spring. As it is not a type of grass that spreads easily you need to plant it close to avioid gaps. ![]() Mediterranean Gardener GARDEN DESING , LANDSCAPING MAINTENANCE IRRIGATION SYSTEM Serdar Arapoglu Tel: 0542 881 2980 Address: 20Temmuz Street(Before Green Petrol Station) ALSANCAK / North Cyprus serdar@medgardener.com Mediterranean Gardener - Home Mediterranean Gardener - Home Mediterranean Gardener - Home Mediterranean Gardener - Home Mediterranean Gardener - Home Mediterranean Gardener - Home |
