Can anyone please tell me if I would be able to take a hire car from the North to the South over the boarder control in Nicosia
Is there anything I need to be aware of?
Insurance etc?

Until recently you were unable to take a TRNC hire car to the south, but in 2008 a few companies changed their policy. You would need to check with the hire car company, and get their approval.
It would also be necessary to purchase additional insurance at the border, as the insurance in the north is not recognised in the south, and this would be third party cover only.

I wouldn't recommend it.
I have hired cars the 'other way round' from south to north, and have had a few bad experiences with other drivers attitudes to a south cyprus hire car, and could see you having similar problems in the South.
